Is it safe to travel Munnar now ?

Of course, as per the current situations, it is safe to travel towards Munnar. There is no restrictions for Tourists

 

Is it Raining in Munnar ?

Kindly keep in mind that Monsoon season is going here and you can expect rain any time. This is quite common in Kerala. Every year we are getting plenty of rain that helps to keep the water resources rich. In rainy season Tourism Department itself take initiatives for promoting Monsoon Tourism every year that attracts plenty of domestic and international Tourists to Kerala 

 

Then Why We are Seeing Lots of Severe Rain and Related News in Print and Digital Medias ?

As you know, climate is something which is unpredictable. Due to cyclonic effects in Arabian Ocean, we were getting severe rain falls in Kerala and unfortunately that caused heavy deadly landslides in Mundakkai Chooralmala areas in Wayanad District. 

 

During those days in Idukki District (Munnar is in Idukki ) we were getting severe rain. So mainly those news of Wayand was coming in medias. Those days were not suggestible to travel. Now climate is back to normal and tourists spots, activities are open for tourists to Enjoy.



What is the weather condition in Munnar Today  ?  

Now things are back to normal. Today were were getting very pleasant climate Sunny in Munnar from morning onwards. By afternoon it became cloudy and misty, bit of drizzling in between. There are chances of normal rain. As we mentioned above, this is the normal climate during monsoon season. As per present weather forecast, there are less chances of heavy rain. In short Munnar is more beautiful now !

 

Are Tourists started travelling to Munnar ?

Definitely yes. Tourist moments getting momentum throughout Kerala so as Munnar.  Actually only during those severe rain days we were getting less Tourists. After that again people started travelling. We are expecting good crowd on the coming long weekend that having Public Holidays


Are the Tourists Spots / Sight Seeing Places / Activities open now ? 

Yes, Most of the tourist spots are open and you can visit all the sight seeing places now. Tourist attraction points is fully opened and functioning including all water activities and trekking..

 

Any Roads or Route to be Avoid ? Any Roads Are Closed ?

 

At the momenet, Except Gap Road all routes and road towards Munnar are open. There is no restriction for travelling. For the time being avoid traveling through GAP Road as it is closed because there were some damages happened during those severe rainfall days. Authorities working on it and hopefully they will make the arrangements for safe traveling through this route within couple of days as per the information from Sub Collector Office


I want to travel towards Thekkady / Kumily . Can you Suggest Best Route ?

Via Gap Road is the best scenic route, This route you can enjoy amazing tea plantations. At Lock Heart Gap area, some damages happened during those severe rainfall days. So presently vehicle movement through this is restricted. For this reason kindly take the below given route


If you are staying out of Munnar Town area towards Kochi direction and want to avoid the town traffic, then there an alternate and well maintaied route via, Chithirapuram -- Kunjithanni - Rajakkad -- Rajakumari - Pooppara - Nedumkandam - Kumali Thekkady


Or else take another route via Adimali -- Kattappana -- Kumily -- Thekkady

If you are coming via Poopparai from Tamilnadu and your booked accommodation is after Munnar Town area towards Cochin side, then you can take the below route if you want to avoid Munnar Town area traffic

Pooppara  --  Rajakumari  Rajakkad -- Kunjithanni -- Chithirapuram -- Munnar Town

 

So in conclusion, Monsoon Tourism is on in Kerala. We welcome you all to this beautiful hill station. Long weekends, festival holidays are coming. Plan and book your holidays
